Belarusian Encyclopedia publishing house releases about war heroes from Uzbekistan

The Petrus Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia Publishing House has released the book "Victory One For All. Belarus-Uzbekistan", director of the publishing house Vladimir Andrievich told BelTA.

"The book is dedicated to the Uzbek soldiers who fought in Belarus during the Great Patriotic War against Nazis, who defended the Brest Fortress, who participated in the partisan and underground movements and liberated Belarus. The edition is illustrated with the historical and modern photographs, the photocopies of archival documents which show the heroism and courage of Uzbek soldiers," Vladimir Andrievich said.

The director recalled that the battle for Belarus lasted for three long years, and hundreds of its participants were awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union. "Among them were 32 Uzbek soldiers who received the award for heroism shown in the battles for Belarus. The book describes the feats of everyone of them, includes their photos," he said.

Thousands of Uzbek soldiers died on the Belarusian land. Belarusian people take care of their graves on numerous mass cemeteries. The book perpetuates the memory of the Uzbek people who died on battlefield during the Great Patriotic War in Belarus and publishes the Unforgotten Names memory list. The list contains more than 1,000 names of Uzbek soldiers. Perhaps many people will learn about the graves of their loved ones for the first time. It is important to continue searching for new information about soldiers' graves and identifying their names.

"Memory is the thing that unites us. The Great Patriotic War made the Belarus-Uzbek friendship and brotherhood stronger, more deep-rooted," Vladimir Andrievich said.
